A 768-Mile Journey to Build a Bespoke Aviary in the Scottish Highlands

There are some projects that stay with you long after the tools are packed away—and this custom aviary build in the heart of the Scottish Highlands is definitely one of them. We set off on a 768-mile round trip to bring this bespoke 14ft x 10ft aviary to life. Inspired by our popular Leighton design, this build was tailored to the customer’s exact needs, combining practicality, durability, and a safe, enriching environment for their birds. The structure features a secure entrance for added peace of mind, a dedicated indoor housing area to provide shelter and warmth, and a generous flight space with a partially meshed roof that allows natural light and airflow while still keeping the birds protected. The Highland landscape offered a stunning backdrop—but also a reminder that daylight disappears quickly up here. We worked against the fading light and managed to complete the final touches just as the last bit of sun dipped behind the hills. Despite the distance, the challenging terrain, and the race against time, this project was incredibly rewarding. There’s nothing quite like seeing a custom design come together in such a beautiful setting. Another build complete—and another happy home for some very lucky birds.
