Our requirements from you are minimal. We just need:

Access and somewhere to park a Mercedes Sprinter long wheelbase van.

Clear access from our van to the building location – please note that we will bring all materials large and small on-site. Carrying through houses, garages or through alleyways with height restrictions may not be possible. Please discuss prior to ordering.

Our RWAF approved rabbit house measures 3m x 2m in total and is the recommended size for two rabbits. Measuring 5′ at the front and 4’6” at the back.

Customise your new wooden rabbit housing with our premium quality upgrades

We have a range of additional upgrades to our RWAF approved rabbit housing. We have included as much information as possible to help you decide on the best configuration for your new rabbit house. Please do give us a call if you would like any help on what would be best for your requirements. We promise no hard sell – we want you to be happy with your new bunny enclosure. We can offer ideas on what upgrades would be best for you; we will also let you know if you don’t need it! For example you could upgrade the rabbit housing area to have a stable door. A 50/50 stable door will provide extra ventilation and allow you to see the internal rabbit housing area without having to open the door fully. Our wipe clean floor upgrade is an excellent choice for rabbits as it has an anti-bacterial surface, making cleaning easier for you. If you are having your new rabbit enclosure located in your back garden, then you will find that our standard felt roof is ample in an area sheltered by other houses. However, if you are lucky enough to be in a rural location and your rabbits are going to be housed in an open and unsheltered area, we would recommend the Onduline roof upgrade to provide extra protection against the harsher elements.
SLIDING HATCH

SLIDING HATCH

Our sliding hatches are added over the access hole to the run area. We use the same material as the wipe-clean flooring, and aluminium runners allow you to slide it open or closed as required. It separates the housing area from the run and is ideal for keeping your rabbits in one area for cleaning. NB Rabbit Welfare Association & Fund states that your rabbit MUST have constant access between indoor housing and run areas – please only use this hatch for short periods to aid with cleaning and DO NOT leave your rabbits closed in overnight.
STABLE DOOR

STABLE DOOR

Add a stable door to your rabbit housing, providing extra ventilation without having to have the door fully open.
WIPE CLEAN FLOOR

WIPE CLEAN FLOOR

Phenolic coatings provide protection against moisture allowing easier maintenance and cleaning. The 12mm boarding is added to the rabbit housing area and provides a non-slip and durable surface. You can use rabbit safe disinfectant to keep the housing floor free from bacteria.
PVC LINED INSULATION

PVC LINED INSULATION

40mm polystyrene is fitted between the framework in the internal rabbit housing then lined with 2mm white PVC sheeting. It keeps areas cool in the summer, warm in the winter and the wipe-clean surface provides easy maintenance. Use rabbit safe disinfectant to keep the area clean and free from bacteria.
ONDULINE ROOF

ONDULINE ROOF

Corrugated, bitumen-based roof sheeting provides your rabbit enclosure with extra protection against the elements and is ideal for exposed areas.
outdoor rabbit housing

Tanalith E is a water-based wood preservative containing copper and organic biocides (primarily triazoles like tebuconazole). These chemicals are pressure-treated deep into the wood fibres to protect against fungal decay (rot) and insect attack.

Why it’s considered generally safe for animals (including rabbits):
  • No Arsenic/Chromium: The significant change in modern wood preservatives is the removal of highly toxic compounds like arsenic and chromium, which were a major concern in older pressure-treated timber.
  • Bonding with Wood: The active ingredients in Tanalith E are designed to bond with the wood structure after treatment, making them less likely to leach out or be easily ingested.
  • Widespread Use in Pet Housing: Many reputable manufacturers of rabbit hutches, runs, and other outdoor pet structures specifically state that they use Tanalith E or similar modern pressure treatments, highlighting its safety for animals.
  • Manufacturer Claims: Manufacturers often state that Tanalith E treated timber is safe for use around children and animals.
  • Experience: Some long-standing pet accommodation manufacturers report having never heard of a rabbit becoming ill from pressure-treated wood.
  Important Considerations and Caveats:
  1. Chewing: While Tanalith E is considered safe, rabbits are notorious chewers. No wood treatment is designed to be eaten. If a rabbit extensively chews on treated wood, there’s always a theoretical risk of ingesting some of the chemicals.
  • Recommendation: Provide your rabbits with plenty of safe, untreated wood to chew on (e.g., untreated apple branches, willow, or specific rabbit chew toys) to redirect their chewing away from their hutch or run structure. Boredom is a major driver of destructive chewing, so ensure they have ample space, enrichment, and ideally a companion.
  1. “Cured” or “Fixed” Timber: Freshly treated timber contains more mobile chemicals. It’s best to allow newly treated wood to “cure” or “fix” completely before allowing rabbits access. This usually means allowing it to dry thoroughly for a few days to weeks (depending on the timber and weather) after treatment, so the chemicals are fully bonded with the wood. However, timber purchased from suppliers that are already pressure treated should already be sufficiently dry and fixed.
  2. Sawdust and Off-cuts: While the treated timber itself is generally considered safe, sawdust and off-cuts from cutting or sanding Tanalith E treated wood should not be used for animal litter or bedding. These contain fine particles that could be inhaled or ingested in higher concentrations.
  3. No Guarantee of “Edible”: “Pet-safe” often means “does not give off toxic fumes” or “is safe for incidental contact.” It doesn’t necessarily mean it’s safe for consumption in large quantities.
  4. Alternative Coatings: Some people prefer to use additional “pet-safe” wood stains or sealants over treated timber (once the Tanalith E has fully cured) to further protect the wood and potentially provide an extra barrier against chewing, though this isn’t strictly necessary for the preservative’s function.
Conclusion: For outdoor rabbit housing and runs, Tanalith E treated timber is generally considered a safe and highly recommended choice due to its excellent durability and protection against rot and pests, which are themselves harmful to rabbits if they compromise the structure of their living space. However, always ensure your rabbits have plenty of appropriate, untreated chew toys and enrichment to minimise their desire to chew on the structural elements of their housing. If you’re building something yourself, ensure the timber is fully dry and cured before putting rabbits in it.

Description

Our Rabbit Welfare Association & Fund approved rabbit house and run meets all of the welfare requirements set out by the RSPCA for housing two rabbits.  The combined house and run is 3m x 2m in size (the minimum size required for a pair of rabbits) and benefits from an enclosed housing area for shelter from the elements.  With a separate indoor area, your bunnies can go in and out through the smaller opening as they please, having more space to roam!  They will have plenty of space to carry out their natural behaviours and can binky to their little bunny-heart’s content!  The front of the run has stainless steel mesh which is a safer and stronger alternative to galvanised mesh.  The mesh has 16g wire for strength against foxes/badgers and the 13mm holes are small enough to keep out mustelids.  Our RWAF approved rabbit house provides ample room compared to smaller budget housing that aren’t always suitable for long term homes.  The run area has an end door that you can always leave open when supervised – as long as you have a safe enclosed area, being able to shut them in at night or during the day when you’re not around.  Give your bunnies the space they deserve and need with a large housing and run.

WHY BUY FROM US?

Our RWAF approved rabbit housing with runs are made using high quality, A Grade Scandinavian Redwood.  The timber is pressure treated with TanalithE giving up to 10 years of protection against insect attack, rot and decay.  We use ex50mm x ex50mm framework (45mm finished) and 16.5mm x ex125mm (12mm thick finished) tongue and groove shiplap cladding on walls, floors and ceilings to create you a strong structure that will last.  Our tongue and groove has a 10mm rebate to allow expansion and movement in the boards – larger than the majority of our competitors.  All products come with a polyester based, heavy duty felt roof which has a clever backing that will seal itself down once warmed in the sun.  Our premium Rabbit and Welfare Association and Fund approved rabbit housing comes with FREE aluminium anti-chew strips around pop holes as standard, and we use stainless steel mesh as standard on our rabbit houses.  The timber clad housing floor is on ex 50mm bearers, which allows ventilation underneath the sleeping area.  3m x 2m is the minimum size for housing a pair of rabbits (two bunnies) – we can make this RWAF approved rabbit housing in larger sizes to provide more space or to house extra bunnies!  Please get in touch.
