Bespoke Free Loft Aviary
We travelled to our customer in Helston for a third time to build another aviary for their bird of prey centre. Having already built two falconry mews for them, they knew what they needed and sent over a design. This one was to be one big free-loft aviary for a pair of Peregrine Falcons.
The aviary measured 16ft x 10ft in total, and they managed to coax an 8ft height out of us, too (we don’t normally like to go above 7ft tall – it’s awkward and heavy!) To the internal walls of the aviary, we added PVC lined insulation which provides an easy wipe-clean surface for the “horizontally fired battery acid” falcon poop (a phrase that our customer used in her first message to us back in 2019 – and it’s stuck ever since!) The aviary had a large rear nest ledge as, fingers crossed, the pair are hopefully going to breed in the near future. A rear porch was also added to access the rear nest ledge with a sliding hatch. To the front of the bird of prey aviary, we added a small hatch and internal feeding shelf. Again, our customer requested a lower height inwards opening door. Finally, the rear nest ledge had a solid roof for shelter, whilst the rest of the aviary had a mesh roof to allow light and weather in for enrichment.
